about
How we got here
Door County Trails emerged from a series of collaborative, community-focused efforts aimed at connecting communities across the county.Initially, the Egg Harbor Trails Initiative set out to link Egg Harbor with nearby communities, while the Town of Gibraltar independently pursued a vision of extending a trail from Egg Harbor to Sister Bay, supported by the Villages of Sister Bay and Ephraim. Additionally, a county-wide conversation about trails was launched under the Green Fund at the Door County Community Foundation, where advocates, municipal leaders, and planners gathered to strategize creating non-motorized transportation connections. While each group began with independent efforts, we quickly recognized our shared goals and have since united around a common purpose. Door County Trails is the result of this shared vision. Many of us are original trailblazers, and the Door County Trails team includes some of those who were part of one or more of these three initial trails initiatives. We applaud all the folks who have advanced our efforts, both past and present. Now, we extend our assistance to all Door County municipalities. We’re working together, united, to even more effectively build safe, scenic pathways that link our communities and create a sustainable, unified initiative for non-motorized transportation.
